gave up on trying to review 2021 stuff when i didn't really do THAT much, so i will be starting reviewing what i've been doing lately and talking more in depth about things since there are some things i haven't talked about to the extent i want to yet and what better place to do it than to the void! so here we go :)

MARVEL'S SPIDER-MAN: MILES MORALES (2020) ONGOING
well, so far, i haven't beaten a single game since the year began. this is cringe if i'm being totally honest. i began miles morales at the end of 2021 with the goal of beating it within the day. and i could've done it too if i wasn't nearly anemic because i got so tired after several hours i had to take a long ass nap. i really am enjoying myself in this game and everyone was right, swinging around by web is so fucking fun i've spent so much time just swinging around the city trying to save people that need help in the app. this game is old (read: not from this or last year) so i know the grievances people have had with this game are already out there and have been talked about to hell and back by now, but man i really wish this was longer. this really is just DLC: the game.

POKÉMON: SHINING PEARL (2021) ONGOING
i did not finish and have been meaning to get back around to it. but i will be playing again soon as i want to catch up and maybe have this over and done with by the time nintendo's gift to gaming comes out (pkmn legends arceus)

EMILY IN PARIS - SEASON 2 (2021) COMPLETE
RATING: ⭐⭐⭐½
we're beginning with a show that i finished last year but forgot i finished it in 2021 and wrote this review for anyway.

this season was one of the craziest things the show has thrown at us and i can't lie, i really liked it. i actually thought it was done much better than the first. a lot of characters were fleshed out much better and i think one of the real stars of the show was camille! i actually really enjoyed her performance, especially when she was acting in french. i didn't think she was a bad actress by any means in the first season, i just really enjoyed seeing her be able to act in her native language. i wish there was more french spoken regularly in the show the way she would have longer conversations with gabriel in this season in french.

being able to act in a language that isn't your first language is really impressive, and i guess i'm not typically conscious of that when watching media so i felt more appreciative of that. her acting hit a bit harder when she spoke in her native language and i hope i get to see more of that next season. not that we will ever see emily learn conversational french the way she absolutely should if she's gonna be in paris so long but, whatever!!!

also i learned the other day it's supposed to be pronounced emily in PAH-RI so both emily and paris rhyme. they are so smart for that i bet they thought people would catch onto it or understand that but i'm sorry it went over my stupid american head.
and now to plug in one of the funniest scenes this season had to offer that everyone needs to see

SINGLE'S INFERNO - SEASON 1 (2021) COMPLETE
RATING: ⭐⭐⭐
this could've been a 5/5 but man, i'm very annoyed with how they tried to do the mundane terrace house type show but then strip it of literally everything that made that work!

single's inferno was a week-long (about 8 days) show that wanted to be both love island and terrace house at once while ignoring the fun parts of it that make both these shows work. you can't have a show that forces people into romantic situations AND a mundane plot that doesn't really force those people INTO those romantic situations (sans when couples would go to "paradise" which was an enormous suite). there's no high stakes (being kicked off the island) to make people really develop these deep bonds or attempt to form connections with the other participants which we kinda saw with sehoon going after jiyeon again and again and again until he was finally able to go to "paradise" with her on the very last night and it worked in his favor because she saw a new side to him. on the other side of that coin, however, ripping away the high stakes of what is essentially a reality dating show and trying to make it a slowburn, slice-of-life show means you need to have it last much longer for these relationships to actually form!!!!! by the time i think real connections were being made, the show was nearly over.

AND ANOTHER THING: justice for my girl minji!!!!!! they did her so dirty by adding her into the show in the last couple episodes. what pissed me off was sehoon really making a connection or having a good date with her, which the both of them said themselves to the other members on the island, then he chose jiyeon again anyway. i feel the same about yeawon and hyunseung. another perfect date where he quite literally didn't take his eyes off of her, and even told the men he was having such a good time and she made him laugh so much - AND THEN HE WENT AFTER JIA AGAIN... i'm a little less mad about this though because the fbi-agents-in-the-making over on twitter found out yeawon and hyunseung have been going out together after the show ended so yeawon finally got the attention she deserves. almost all the girls who were added to the show at the end did not get the treatment they should've gotten. and cast members being added in the middle of things is such a common plot in love island but, again, it works because that show is very high stakes and there is so much going on there at all times that even those with brief time on the island are able to do much more than the members were able to here!

i'm hoping this is a trial run and that if and when single's inferno gets a second season, not only is all of the above addressed and we get a much, much longer season (even a month is, imo, adequate for what they are trying to achieve) but i hope the panelists are a bit better lol. i was shocked when i saw hanhae and suju kyuhyun there honestly but the hosts didn't have the best banter with each other? again, i will be comparing this to terrace house since it is almost impossible NOT to do so when every part of this show seems like it was done by the exact same people who worked on terrace house, but some of the best parts about terrace house was the banter the hosts had with each other. i feel a bit more lenient on this than the show's length being so short since these hosts have only done one season of this show together so there is time for their relationships to develop and for their commentary to become much better, but i really do think this area needs to be improved on. a lot of their comments were not really dissecting what was watched (the show also threw in reactions quite frequently vs. terrace house's "watch for like 10 min and then the hosts come in and discuss what happened for 3 minutes or so"). they lacked the same charm and humor, tbh, as the hosts for terrace house, but i think it might be better around in the second season.
IT'S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA - SEASON 15 (2021) COMPLETE
RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐½
another show i finished in 2021 but forgot that it ended last year. this season was really funny and also went to some really WEIRD places aka placing all the cast members in some of the wildest things that happened in 2021 (the jan. 6 insurrection, frank being the reason why rudy giuliani's hair dye was leaking all over him in that one press conference, etc.). i don't like shows that add in a covid storyline because... well we're still living through that and in my opinion i really hate seeing it passed off in a lighthearted manner as this country is still struggling to overcome it and failing each and every day but, I GUESS THAT'S JUST MY OPINION since so many shows wanna bring it in anyway! i feel the way covid was incorporated into this season was authentic to what the show is and didn't feel too out of place like every other show that added it to their story. i also really enjoyed the ireland plot i thought it was really fun. dee was really great this season, too! very excited for the next season though god knows when that will happen.
BLEACH (2004) ONGOING
EPISODES: 119/366
haven't actually watched since december but god i am really having a blast watching this show for the first time. can i also just say that... RUKIA AND RENJI? NOW THAT IS A SHIP..... i was getting some childhood friends-to-lovers vibes from them but to then see not only is it potentially unrequited, but the fact he's tried to be honest and confess to her but just hasn't worked up the nerve to, and is also so protective of her???? i'm literally barking and shaking. i'm really determined to finish this show soon so i hope that perhaps by march or end of february i can do it! i'm also skipping all filler because i don't have time for that so i think that's doable.
ABBOTT ELEMENTARY (2021) ONGOING
EPISODES: 3/6
this new comedy show dropped on abc/hulu and i've been loving it omg. i watched it all during work the other day when things were slow and i was waiting for things to be finished for me to continue my work and man, this is so good. i don't think i've watched anything with quinta brunson before sans iZombie and definitely some clip of hers that's gone viral online, but she's really killing it on this show. i'm thoroughly enjoying the humor on this show and i personally just love mockumentaries so everything about this is a win for me. i hope it gets more attention! will most likely bump this to a five star rating by the time the season is over but i'll leave it at a 4.5 until then.
EUPHORIA - SEASON 2 (2022) ONGOING
EPISODES: 1/8
i've missed euphoria so much lol. i liked the first ep even though it was so fucking stressful and i felt like i was holding my breath for an hour straight. i was surprised they chose to have rue and jules make up so quickly but for the sake of the show i suppose it had to happen. i don't really think that's unrealistic for them to make amends and get back together (? or be friends? not sure what the show is implying is happening next but i don't think it's wild to assume they're dating again) because of the nature of teenagers and just people in love in general. this will be posted before the next episode is out but god i'm excited to have another weekly show to watch again.

also: i noticed in emily in paris that small bags are making a comeback. now that euphoria is adopting those too.. it feels inevitable that the next fashion trend (that def has been around but imo will have a major surge in popularity) is tiny bags that fit nothing in them and i, quite frankly, can't fucking join in because i carry too damn much

holding nothing in those bags just vibes

my goal is to begin watching more movies and tv this year because i used to do that CONSTANTLY and now i can barely finish a series, or i keep trying to watch it with other people and coordinating that is really difficult especially when i am really interested in watching more and they aren't (aka: my boyfriend because i try to watch a lot of things with him but he doesn't have the energy or desire to keep up with things and binge them the way i like and there are a bunch of things i want to finish but are in limbo because we were watching together) so far this is what i've seen in january!
ENCANTO (2021)
RATING: ⭐⭐⭐½
disney made lin manuel miranda put his whole mirandussy in the soundtrack! wish the story got that much attention to detail though!!! really loved the characters and the plot was really interesting and it hit home real bad and i cried a lot watching this. the soundtrack is so amazing and i have nothing bad to say about any of the songs but damn we don't talk about bruno is so fucking good.
FOUR ROOMS (1995)
RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
i watched this for the first time on new year's with some friends. this was a really fun movie! the movie followed a man who worked at a hotel and what he experienced in the four different rooms he was called to help on that new year's eve night. there were four directors and each director was in charge of one room and i found that incredibly fun. i enjoyed the first room with the coven of witches because i love seeing women and most importantly seeing women do what they want, and i also really liked the third room ted visited. despite the plot of the third room being entertaining and very engaging, there were some weird choices by the director that felt oddly sexual which is weird when you think about it since the room involved two young children :') also a bit more feet action than i would've liked (none). i enjoyed quentin tarantino's room as well so i'm sorry to everyone everywhere.
BELLE (2021)
RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
does mamoru hosoda ever miss? doesn't seem so because holy shit what a beautiful movie. it's more than a new retelling of beauty and the beast, there's more than just one new twist to it and i was really impressed by it. the music was beautiful and i really loved the designs of all the characters we met. everyone was so lively, with such unique looks both in the real world and within the movie's "metaverse" setting (though yes they forgot people with darker skin don't have the same colored palms but maybe one day they'll get that right). the movie tried to do a lot and i didn't hate it or feel too overwhelmed by it. there is a part of the movie that was a bit difficult for me to watch, because of the seriousness of it/how dark that theme really was, but it wasn't as triggering as i think i'm making it sound. i didn't pick up on it heading that direction so i wasn't expecting it.

i watched this movie subbed because it's the only version that seems to be available online. i was meant to see it in english with a friend during a trip to california but thanks to covid none of that happened. i'm interested in hearing how the english version went (esp. since queen hunter schafer is in it) so i might check it out soon, or just wait for it to get leaked somewhere online again.
RESIDENT EVIL: WELCOME TO RACCOON CITY (2021)
RATING: ⭐⭐½
first of all... a round of applause for resident evil: welcome to raccoon city being the only movie with the sexiest leon kennedy alive

it was entertaining for both the right and the wrong reasons; the actors really did the absolute best with what they had. unironically had a good time watching it because it kinda just did stay true to the bloodsoaked zombie sillyness. there were some nice shots in the movie that i appreciated and yeah wasn't the best but i was entertained idgaf

bottom line is: the girls that get it, get it, and the girls that don't, don't!!!!

the only thing i wanna leave this review with is my favorite exchange in the entire movie

THE WEEKND - DAWN FM (2022)
RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

i am telling you right now the grip this album has on me is absolutely ridiculous. i listen to A LOT of music as it drops and check out new releases, but i LISTEN to very little music as it is in my own time now because i work from home. and quite honestly i don't go out (on walks) as much as i should be, although i'd argue it's way too cold for that right now anyway, so i don't get the chance to really listen to music for my own pleasure anymore. it's too difficult to listen to it at my job when i have so many forms of media i need to be watching and checking over and to have that extra audio on top of all that is really distracting. i started keeping track of my music habits with last.fm some time last year when i saw friends in a discord server doing it and the following is from this week when i listened to the album on jan. 12 for the first time.

208 plays (and more by now) btw. i think i am sick in the head rn.

as for the album, though, this was a really fun one! i'm not a huge fan of the weeknd's music and really only enjoy a handful of songs from his releases. i casually keep up with his music and expected this album to have basically the same results for me but ended up loving it so much i liked nearly every song on the album. i can't imagine listening to the songs on shuffle because the way they transition into one another is so IMPORTANT TO ME that i have to listen to it the whole way through or not at all. i love the concept of this being a radio station we're listening to (103.5 fm is actually ktu so i find it really funny to hear it advertised as dawn fm throughout the album but then knowing the real life station is ktu and hearing ktu's jingle when they say "103.5"). it's so unique and just something i personally feel like i haven't heard in a minute so i really love the direction he went with this album. i personally believe it is so far ahead of anything else he's released before and i'm thrilled with what he's created.

i can't narrow down a favorite even though it looks like my scrobbles might say otherwise, and i've been having a blast listening to the album the whole way through. the music videos released for this album are also captivating and very fun. i didn't realize one of his songs, take my breath (which also bangs btw) was released back in august as a single or whatever since it's been on youtube. i'm glad my first time with that song was through dawn fm, though. i really can't stress how much fun this album is and what a great time i've been having. (i am currently writing this post to the album on repeat) glad this is my first album of the year and quite honestly, dawn fm is already a contender for album of the year for me.
